MANTUA — The Mantua Shalersville Chamber of Commerce is scrambling to provide Christmas gifts for nearly 200 area children.
Chamber President Marie Stehli said she sent 132 letters to members and businesses requesting donations of cash or toys. To date, only eight gifts have been donated.
“These gifts may be the only gifts these kids receive,” Stehli said.
Miniature trees have been placed in several participating businesses, with ornaments containing the gender and age of a child age 12 and younger in need of a gift. The chamber also is accepting donations of cash, which will be used to purchase gift cards for teenagers.
The public is invited to take an ornament and purchase a gift valued at $20 or less. Unwrapped gifts should be brought in to Middlefield Bank no later than Tuesday.
Checks also may be made payable to the chamber and may be sent to the Mantua Shalersville Chamber of Commerce, attention Holiday 4C’s drive, P.O. Box 111, Mantua. Donations will be used to purchase gift cards for local discount department stores.
The chamber is seeking gifts for 102 younger children, plus funds to purchase gift cards for 70 teens. The referrals were provided by the Crestwood Coalition for Community Care, the local food pantry for the region, which is providing 300 food baskets to area families. The 4C’s cannot use its own money to provide the gifts.
Trees with ornaments have been put up at Carlton Harley Davidson, Theresa’s Pizza, Mantua Station Pharmacy, Barky Mart, Best Little Hair Hut, Advance Rehab and Health Specialists, Middlefield Bank and Mantua Center Church.

no g250 its the kent kent ken and maybe ravenna newspaper. when they do cover a story in ravenna they do it mediocre at best. there was no real coverage of the balloon a fair parade or events no pictures that showed anything and now again with the christmas parade this past weekend they didnt get pictures of anything other than the santa and mrs clause. what about all the other people in the parade? there was a lot of cool floats that im sure took a long time and effort to build that didnt get any coverage. i know for a fact that one company will no longer be involved in the parades in ravenna because of the lack of coverage ravenna gets on them. but im sure the kent lighting event tomorrow will get lots of pictures and detailed description of the events . last years christmas parade coverag in ravenna was a picture of the back of someones head . mean wth thats the best you can do? and yes if i could i would start my own newspaper and cover the event a lot better than the rc but those days of me being able to do that kind of thing is long gone and to answer your question dp i do go to kent to shop when i can as its not kents fault that the paper is the way it is

No, dp. You can count on him complaining about something that makes no sense at all. Its the KENT/RAVENNA newspaper which also covers other local news/areas. What great news is the Record Courier missing in Ravenna on a daily basis that you complain about a Kent story? Oh wait, nothing. I'm tired of your stupid complaining every morning about if its a Kent story (Boohoo why does Kent get the attention) or if its a Ravenna story (Boohoo you covered Ravenna so I'll complain it must have been hard to write)

TIRED - Can we count on you to visit one or all of these fine establishments since they aren't in Kent?
