Portage County Local Health Departments will hold H1N1 vaccination clinics for the general public from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the Portage County Administration Building, 449 S. Meridian St., Ravenna, in Room 134.
People are discouraged from arriving in advance of the clinic. No early birds will be taken. There is no cost for the vaccine at either clinic.
People are encouraged to pre-register for the clinics, which helps speed up the paperwork process. Pre-registration may be made at the Ohio Department of Health Web site, www.h1n1vaccine.odh.ohio.gov.
The departments held three open clinics this past week. Two at the county administration building had 794 people vaccinated. Another clinic at the Ravenna City Health Department vaccinated 366 people.
A total of 2,256 vaccinations were given in previous high risk group clinics.
The Portage County Health Department also provides H1N1 vaccines to those 18 years old and younger every Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon during the regualr Child and Teen Shot Clinic.
Also, this past week the Portage County Local Health Departments administered a total of 1,124 second dose H1N1 vaccines to students age nine and under in Field, St. Joseph in Randolph, Crestwood, St. Joseph in Mantua, Streetsboro and Southeast schools.
Second doses will be given in January to students in Kent, ravenna and Aurora schools when they are eligible.
“I’d like to thank the Portage County local health departments for being efficient, courteous, and thorough,” said pat Bissler, Field Local Schools nurse. “Everyone on the vaccination team was friendly. Overall it was a great experience. We can’t thank the health departments enough for their hard work at these clinics.”
