This year, the Garrettsville Eagles Aerie No. 2705 donated nearly $5,000 to be divided among four community service organizations.

Sharing the donation are Community Ambulance Inc., in Garrettsville; the Garrettsville Volunteer Fire Department, which serves Garrettsville as well as Freedom, Hiram and Nelson townships; Pilot Dogs, Inc., which provides trained guide dogs for the blind; and the Garrettsville Police Department, a new addition to the program in 2009.

Accepting the checks from Eagles president Art Perrine were Chris Sanchez, chief of Community Ambulance, and Chief David Friess of the fire department.

Garrettsville Police Chief Anthony Milicia and Harold Ullman of Pilot Dogs, Inc., were unable to attend the presentation. The Garrettsville Eagles Club members hope to continue to support the community in future years. This year, the club is considering adding the Portage County District Library to the list of recipients.
