"So You Want to Be a Saint?" was the topic on Jan. 12 at the Rusty Nail Restaurant in Twin Lakes. In attendance at the event are, from left, Jeanne and Frank Flecksteiner of Immaculate Conception Parish in Ravenna with Msgr. Peter Polando. Polando was the eighth speaker in the past two years as a part of Dinner and Doctrine. He is pastor of St. Matthias Church and administrator of Holy Name Parish, both in Youngstown, as well as "spending 40 percent of his time" as adjutant judicial vicar of the Diocesan Tribunal. Polando shared his experience of promoting the cause for sainthood of Mother Casini, Oblate Sister of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, who has been credited with a miracle for a young boy who was "brain dead" after being found at the bottom of a family pool. He also shared the historical development of canonizations of saints. Next month, the Rev. Christopher Luoni will talk on "What Is God Calling Us to?" Tickets are on sale at all Portage County parishes for $25 for the buffet dinner and speaker. The last date to purchase tickets is Jan. 31. Comments
