The Portage community has again demonstrated its generosity for local programs that encourage understanding and diversity. The Portage County NAACP Branch would like to thank the Ravenna Fund for its generous donation of funds to the 2010 Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Prayer Breakfast. The gift enabled us to include more young people in the program. The community also supported the Annual Freedom Fund Dinner where the NAACP presented the Dr. Martin Luther King Community Services Awards. The NAACP thanks those organizations which provided underwriting for the dinner: Portage County College Access, Ravenna Fund, Valu King of Ravenna, Kent State University and its Financial Aid Office and Upward Bound, PARTA, Family and Community Services, Community Action Council of Portage County, First Congregational Church of Ravenna, United Church of Jesus Christ of Ravenna, Upper Room Ministries, Portage County Commissioner Maureen Frederick, Gene Brown, Ravenna Township Trustee Hank Gibson, Ohio State Senator Tom Sawyer, Kent Councilman Robin Turner, Portage County Auditor Janet Esposito, Robinson Memorial Hospital, Linda Copley, Portage Community Bank, First Place Bank, Bill and Carolyn Nome, Drs. Fran and Marlene Dorsey, Donald and Dr. Geraldine Nelson, Home Savings Bank, Drs. Gary and Nancy Padak, Frank Hairston, Portage County Sheriff David Doak and Portage County Recorder Bonnie Howe. The vision of the NAACP is to ensure a society in which all individuals have equal rights and racial hatred and racial discrimination do not exist. We welcome all individuals to join us in our mission and experience community the way Dr. King envisioned. The Rev. Eddie H. Renfroe President Portage County NAACP Comments
