I have a wall hanging on which the words known as "The Prayer of St. Francis" are embroidered. Our nation is caught up in so much wrangling, division, animosity toward one another and actual hate that when I read these words, they help me to put a different spin on life and what it is meant to be. The prayer begins, "Lord, Make me an instrument of thy peace; Where there is hatred, let me sow love, where there is injury, pardon" and concludes "It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying, that we are born to eternal life." I know that these words are very high-minded words for us humans and probably no one has been able to follow them completely, but wouldn't it be wonderful if each one of us would try a little harder each day to incorporate these words into our lives? Is this too idealistic? I don't think so. I think it is necessary to solve the immense problems we have facing us. "Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me." Nancy Johnson Kent Comments
