Portage County Adult Probation Department's Intensive Supervision Program has been awarded a certificate of excellence in community-based corrections programs in statewide competition for the 2009 Cliff Skeen Award.

Over 200 programs throughout Ohio were considered or nominated.

Portage's Intensive Supervision Program was only one of three such programs in Ohio to win the achievement of "excellence" in the competitive review process.

"The Common Pleas Court judges are extremely proud of the hard-working, dedicated staff of the Adult Probation Department. Due to their efforts we have been successful in reducing recidivism (repeat offending) and helping offenders become law-abiding citizens who contribute in a positive manner to our communities," said Portage County Common Pleas Court Judge Laurie J. Pittman.

Adult Intensive Supervision Probation is a community-based correction program that stresses more frequent interaction between the probationer and their probation officer.
