Ravenna wrong to quit task force

This decision to withdraw from the Portage County Drug Task Force by the City of Ravenna is wrong. I have seen the results of the task force for a long time.

In 1997, I moved a business to Cleveland Road with part of the property being in Ravenna Township (sheriff control) and part of it in the city (Ravenna city police). I was told it was a bad move with the neighborhood and that I should reconsider.

I saw the Portage County Sheriff's Department, Ravenna Police Department and the Portage County Drug Task Force clean this area up. The effort they put in was great and you could see the results.

Now, to modify this situation with the reason being "management decision," with no supporting documentation or reason, is wrong. The public safety is at risk and we have a right to know.

The mayor of Ravenna is the saftey director and he should come forth with the reasons. It is wrong for the people who live in this area and the businesses who try to make a go of it here. There aren't many of us left. More businesses are leaving than coming with the city's position on businesses' well-being.

Does this mean that the Ravenna Police Department will not assist the sheriff's deputy who has stopped someone at the city line on Cleveland Road? Does this mean drug sales in this area will go up with the drug task force getting "no assistance" from RPD?

This is another bad decison by the mayor of Ravenna, again. The people of the city are not being served well with this poor decison.
