By Dave O’Brien Record-Courier staff writer Green people, green hair, green shirts and green beer were all part of Wednesday’s celebration of St. Patrick’s Day in downtown Kent. The mood was festive but calm, with few apparent problems in the early afternoon. The bars and patios on Franklin Avenue were crammed with people in green apparel. Kent State University students partied the day away on the front lawns of fraternity houses on East Main and South Lincoln streets, staying off the sidewalks with their drinks. They played drinking games and cornhole and threw lacrosse balls and frisbees around as other revelers in green walked the streets talking about heading to the next bar. A group of partiers in front of the Delta Upsilon fraternity house on South Lincoln Street waved a reporter over and took a break from their cornhole game to pose for photos. They were among at least three-dozen people on the fraternity’s front lawn enjoying sunny skies and a high temperature near 60 degrees. “It’s just a great time,” said KSU sophomore accounting/finance major Antonino Bucca, standing in front of the Delta Upsilon fraternity house on South Lincoln Street. As of 8:45 p.m., Kent police said there were no major incidents to report.
