Guilty plea for 13 years of sex abuse: Ravenna man in court for charges involving 3 girlsMarch 18, 2010
By Dave O’Brien Record-Courier staff writer A Ravenna man arrested last fall for sexually abusing three juvenile females over a more than a dozen years is facing up to 15 years in prison and a Tier III sex offender classification after recently pleading guilty to three felony sexual assault charges. Darin K. Few, of 338 Ravenna Ave., pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual battery and one count of gross sexual imposition in Portage County Common Pleas Judge Laurie Pittman’s courtroom. The offenses took place between January 1996 and March 2009, according to Few’s grand jury indictment. A sentencing date has not been set, pending a pre-sentence investigation by the Portage County Adult Probation Department. Few will be labeled a Tier III sex offender at sentencing, according to his plea deal, and his attorney from the Portage County Public Defender’s Office will be allowed to argue Few’s sentence. Tier III sex offenders are required to register with their county’s sheriff’s office their address, place of employment and enrollment in any educational institution every 90 days for the rest of their lives. Such offenders also may have notice of their residence given to neighbors, schools, and daycare centers within 1,000 feet of their address. Few has been jailed on $100,000 cash bond since his November 2009 indictment on 14 counts of rape, attempted rape, sexual battery, gross sexual imposition and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. Pittman ordered Few’s bond continued until sentencing. The remaining 11 counts of Few’s indictment were dismissed by Pittman on a motion by the Portage County Prosecutor’s Office.
