By Dave O'Brien Record-Courier staff writer A Kent man was sentenced last week to 100 days in the Portage County jail for felony assault on a Rootstown man last fall. Robert P. Steiner-Johnson of 705 Stinaff St. was sentenced last week by Portage County Common Pleas Court Judge Laurie Pittman. He pleaded guilty Jan. 14 to aggravated assault, a fourth-degree felony, which was amended from a more serious charge of second-degree felonious assault as part of his plea. Pittman also ordered Steiner-Johnson, 18, placed on five years probation, ordered him to undergo a mental health evaulation, obtain his GED and a full-time job within nine months. Steiner-Johnson was arrested Nov. 23, 2009, by the Kent Police Department in connection with a Nov. 14 assault on Kurt J. Broecker, a Rootstown man, according to a Portage County grand jury indictment. Pittman ordered Steiner-Johnson to have no contact with Broecker for one year, other than to write a letter of apology to him within two weeks of sentencing. Comments
