The Portage County Solid Waste Management District has cut back on what waste items it will accept.

As of April 1, the district will accept only: Used oil, antifreeze, ni-cad batteries, lead acid batteries, electronics, appliances without freon, computers, scrap metal.

The district will not accept: Paint, pesticides, CFL and other fluorescent light bulbs or chemicals.

The district is clearing out the old accumulation of hazardous materials at a substantial cost to the district for disposal.

The recycling center is located at 3588 Mogadore Road in Brimfield. The on-site collection hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays.

"The district will not accept: Paint, pesticides, CFL and other fluorescent light bulbs or chemicals"

Houston, we have a problem!! We are being forced under law (federal in a couple of years) and now under state law to use CFLs (State energy/green bill) and First Energy's CFL program.

Yet, we do not have a place to recycle these hazardous items.

How are we going to do this? Who pays for the hazmat team when we put this items in the trash?

Is this another hidden "tax" we are forced to pay???

Time to start letting our representatives know this is not good government!!!
