Windham man killed in crash in Shalersville: Two injured; S.R. 303 closed for five hoursJuly 31, 2010
BY DAVE O’BRIEN | STAFF WRITER A 28-year-old Windham man was killed and two others injured Friday morning in a two-vehicle traffic crash on S.R. 303 in Shalersville. Shortly before 9 a.m., Walter L. White was driving a 2000 Honda Civic westbound on S.R. 303 about a half a mile east of S.R. 44 when he collided head-on with a 2000 Mack dump truck, according to the Ravenna Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol. Troopers said White appeared to have traveled left of center into the path of the dump truck, which was eastbound on S.R. 303 carrying 24 tons of sand. White was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the patrol. His passenger, Gerald Dowling, 18, of Garrettsville, was taken by helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, where he was in stable condition Friday, according to the patrol. The dump truck driver, John M. McMillion, 37, of Struthers, was transported to Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, where the patrol said he was in stable condition Friday afternoon. The crash is under investigation. S.R. 303 was closed from 9 a.m. until about 2 p.m. while troopers investigated, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation.
