Pet burials at Kent cemetery draw fire from residents

Within the next few months, Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent will begin selling plots reserved for pets.
Not everyone’s thrilled about that.
The Standing Rock Cemetery Board of Trustees will address concerns about its decision to allow pet burials in a specific section on cemetery grounds at its 4 p.m. meeting Thursday at the cemetery board office.
Jean Chrest, clerk-treasurer of the cemetery, said the discussion was added to the meeting’s agenda after a woman called the cemetery last week with concerns about the plan.
“The lady I spoke with was concerned about pets taking up spaces where people should be,” Chrest said. “We’ve got a lot of space here.”

I am not sure what all the commotion is about. The pets will be in a different section of the cemetary. I am sure it will be well maintained as the rest of the area. All of the residents there probably really don't much care that there will be someones loved pet in a smaller section.

Rs has it about right: it isn't like they are going to dig up hour grandmother and put a dead dog in there with her. Standing Rock should just make a section with a different name and use it for the pets and people plots. Did anyone buy a plot 100 years ago because the place would go back to the river? In St. Mary they clear cut all the trees and the cemetery looks like it belongs in Kansas.

I really don't understand the problem; the pets are going to be in a different section than the humans. No different than if you had a "pet" cementary right next door to a cemetary for humans.

No Codemonkey he is not saying pets do not deserve to be buried if you read his post you will see that. He along with myself ( I am his sister) have dogs and they are part of our family. What we are trying to get everyone to understand is, there is pet cemeteries to bury your pets. Standing rock was not orignally a cemetery to bury people and pets.

Jaytee, are you saying the pets do not deserve to be buried? My family has plots at S.R.C (my Gransmother is buried there), and think of my pets are part of my family.

These two ladies were called uppity snots & other unflattering names, seeking out their 15 minutes? (of fame I'm guessing).....When in fact the only word that should be used to describe these two ladies is....ANGELS.
Every person who chose to be buried in S.R.C. (Standing Rock Cemetery) or every family who chose to bury loved ones there should have been told of the possibility of pets also being buried there someday. These "ANGELS" are not only speaking out for the four generations of their family buried there, but also for hundreds (maybe thousands) of other people who have been buried there since the 1800s and most likely have no family or relatives left to "look out or speak out" for them.
The bottom line is that what S.R.C. did was wrong and they got caught...when people or entities in power get caught doing something wrong the try to turn it around by making the people or entities that caught them look bad......
And as far as the nasty comments & name calling from the commenters....I feel they owe these two ladies an apology....Its a lot easier (and for some more fun) to call people names and say what they are doing is wrong than it is to just say..."Wow, you're right...Thank You.
Remember....."name calling is generally the strongest expression of a weak mind"

GOD BLESS YOU BOTH & THANK YOU
