Once again, preparations for the Record-Courier's annual graduation supplement are under way. It will be published later this month.
As I typed the names of the graduating students, I've noticed a few things.
Michael isn't the most popular boys' name anymore. It's now Daniel, Matthew, Joshua and Christopher (which also was popular for the past couple of years.)
Popular girls' names are Alyssa, Ashley, Brittany, Courtney, Danielle and Samantha, no matter how one spells them.
Some parents had fun when they named their children. If they had a well-known last name, the parents gave their child the well-known first name. For example, Donna Reed graduated from Aurora High School.
What I found interesting were the number of students with two middle names. While there were only a few last year, there are a lot this year and two students had three middle names!
The most popular colleges grads put down as the one they'll be attending were Kent State University, the University of Akron and Ohio State University.
The most popular courses of study were education, medicine and engineering. My journalism job is safe for another year!

Brady Lake has new playground equipment, thanks to the tireless efforts of community members who held fund-raising events and solicited donations.
The non-profit group is not affiliated with the village in any way. "When we were collecting money, we heard comments like "Why don't you use the money to fix the drainage problems?'" said Becky Archer.
The group had collected $24,000 and was able to purchase half of the equipment for Phase 1 of the project. Phase 1 is the equipment for ages 5 through 12. The second half of the phase will include a wheelchair ramp. The following phase will be for children of the preschool age.
Record-Courier photographer Lisa Scalfaro went to take a picture of the equipment and found children playing on it.
Unfortunately, there were no adults at the playground. However, since it is a public place, she took pictures, took the children's names and got their phone numbers. Lisa then called the parents and explained that she took photos for the R-C.
These children were ages 6, 10 and 12. They were not related, so it wasn't like the 12-year old was keeping an eye on the younger children. Times have changed, so parents, if you can't watch your children at the park, don't let them go to the park alone.

This just in from my e-mail box "
Only in America:
Do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.
Do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries and a diet Coke.
Do banks leave both doors open and then chain the pens to the counters.
Do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage.
