Carl L. Battaglia, 72, of Brimfield, died Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at Akron City Hospital Medical Center. He was born March 31, 1936, in Cleveland to Antonio and Grace (Pulio) Battaglia. Like much of his family, he spent his life working the soil, first in the muck then on the farm and in the greenhouses. In 1989, he built his own greenhouses and operated under Battaglias T & B Garden Center and was still actively working them. He was a member of St. Patrick Church. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Clapp) Battaglia, whom he married on December 20, 1969; sons, Jim (Deb) Laudermilk of Kent, Robert (Anita) Laudermilk of Windham, and Carl (Bonnie) Battaglia of Cuyahoga Falls; daughter, Nancy (Billy) Ratcliff of Aurora; eleven grandchildren,; many great grandchildren; sisters, Mary Lou Pizzute of Kent, Josephine Hood of Mantua, Grace Harmon of Garrettsville, and Betty (Dick) Lohmier of Ravenna; and sister in law, Elizabeth Battaglia of Brimfield. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Angelo, Paul, and Nicholas; and sister-in-law, Louise Battaglia. Calling hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 PM Friday, August 29th at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Funeral services will be held 9:30 AM Saturday, August 30th at St. Patrick Church with Father Richard Pentello officiating. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent.
