Eugene E. Bliler 92 years of age of Shalersville, passed away Wednesday August 27, 2008 at Akron City Hospital. Mr. Bliler was born on September 25, 1915 in Lockhaven, Pennsylvania the son of the late William and Coila (Bailey) Bliler. A resident of the Mantua--Shalersville areas since 1974, Mr. Bliler was District Manager of National Life Insurance Company for over 25 years and then was the building grounds superintendent for 5 years at Maplewood Vocational School until his retirement. He was a US Army veteran of World War II and served with the Army Air Force Band. He was a member of American Legion Post No 193 in Mantua, Mr Bliler assisted with the organization of the Stow Library Dixieland Band in which he also played. He enjoyed entertaining area nursing homes playing both gospel and numerous types of music for residents. Mr. Bliler was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mantua. On June 29, 1974 he married Mary Ellen (Hurlburt) Bliler whom survives at their residence. Also surviving are his children Richard Bliler of Canton, Ohio, Daniel (Laura) Mays of Cleveland, Denton (Judy) Mays of New Jersey, David Mays of Mantua, Sharon (Edward) Miller of Canton and Kathleen Hartshorne of California. 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his first wife Opal Bliler in 1971. Calling hours will be Friday from 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua, where prayers will be said Saturday at 12:15 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday August 30, 2008 at 1:00 P.M at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mantua with the Rev. Michael Garvey officiating. Final resting place will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Streetsboro. Full military honors will be observed at the cemetery.
