Out of touch

Share_print Print Story    |    Comments    |

State Rep. Kathleen Chandler's proposed tax increases on the citizens of this state ("Chandler calls for tax hikes," Record-Courier, June 25), show how out of touch our local leaders are with reality.

As families struggle with day to day expenses, our leaders in the Ohio House look to those same families to get their fiscal house in order. Our state government needs to get its financial situation in order immediately and stop spending money that they simply do not have.

Ohio's economy will not expand and grow if the Strickland administration and its enablers in the Ohio House continue to burden its responsibility of a balanced budget on hard-working families.

Have a heart! Our poor governor and legislators are hard pressed to deliver all the booty they've promised so it is natural for them to loot a little harder. It calms their frayed nerves to do what they enjoy most, raising taxes.

It doesn't make much sense to plunder the same people to whom they pay tribute, now does it? Therefore, they must burden the hard-working citizen. You see, they are not hard-working and cannot related to anyone who is. But in all those years of huddling far from the work and near to the money they have learned many things. They have become possessed of a wisdom unparalleled in history, and certainly beyond comprehension of ordinary voters.

One of the great mysteries known only by the governor and legislature is that a camel whose back has been broken by too much straw will miraculously be healed by piling on even more. The empowered camel will rise to bear the greater load with such determination that it won't even bother to eat or drink anymore. Nor will it bother to vote against them.

Now to some of you readers this may seem to be extreme insanity, but have you not noticed all the camels that have joined the "Brain Drain" caravan to elsewhere? There has to be something there.

Others may say that Ohio teeters on the brink of destruction, but this solution has been proven by history. When did you last hear of the Roman Empire having a budget crisis? No more problems there!

So be good scouts, don't fret about those hard-working families, and get prepared to move out with the next caravan to distant lower-taxed lands. Do so quickly because a pack of legislator wolves descends to devour you!
