rles William Bill Franks, age 89 of Ravenna, passed away Friday, November 06, 2009, at Robinson Memorial Hospital. He was born December 21, 1919, in Muskegon, Michigan, a son of the late Chauncey and Fairy (Royce) Franks. Bill was a licensed funeral director and embalmer in the State of Ohio since 1941. He also worked for the Ravenna Lumber and Coal Company for 19 years and was a letter carrier for the US Post Office for 10 years. Bill was also active in C.H. Franks and Son, a traffic light installation company servicing northeast Ohio. He was a decorated veteran of the US Army during WWII. Bill was a member of the First United Church of Ravenna for over 60 years. He also was an active Freemason, belonging to Unity Lodge #12 F.&A.M. of Ravenna, Tyrian Chapter #91, Royal Arch Masons of Ravenna, Akron Council #80, Royal and Select Masons, Akron Commandery #25, Knight Templar, Tadmor Temple Shrine of Akron, YUSEF Khan Grotto of Akron. He served as Past Patron for Ravenna Chapter #46 OES and was a current member of Palmy Chapter #114. Bill was also an active member of Ravenna Grange #32, the Ohio State Grange, and belonged to the National Grange. Survivors include his wife of 68 years Dorothy Lenore (Luikart) Franks; daughter: Shirley (Michael) Johnson of Edinburg; grandchildren: Judy (Steve) Duty of Sharron, PA, Debbie (Phil) Farmer of Columbia, SC, Susan Kay (Larry) Wyatt of Altadena, CA; great- grandchildren: Charles and Samantha Duty, Kelly and Alan Farmer, and Elizabeth Wyatt. Friends will be received Sunday from 1-3 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. Masonic and Eastern Star services will begin at 3:00 PM Sunday. Funeral services will be officiated by Pastor Scott Purdum on Monday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ohio State Grange Camp Fund or the First United Methodist Church of Ravenna. Please share your memories at www.mem.com.
