Now that the election is over with Mayor Kevin Poland moving up to municpal court to be a judge, the city of Ravenna will select a new mayor. With the new council coming in on Jan 1, only one member has indicated he would take the job according to a Record- Courier article. That member is Joe Bica and he has no party affliation according to Portage County Board of Elections records. All other members have Democratic affliation. It should be noted that the recent election was Ravenna's first non-partisan election since the city charter was changed. The question is whether a majority of the six Democrats on Ravenna City Council will select a non-Dem as the city's new mayor. This is a long shot at best. Bill Davis Ravenna Comments
