Government puts freedom at risk

Share_print Print Story    |    Comments    |

I attended the Veterans Day ceremony at the Portage County Courthouse as a combat veteran. I listened to the obligatory political pats-on-the-back for using taxpayer money the government has long spent for bureaucratic patronage: the pork barrel "fat" used to provide the memorial and the promise of additional veterans' benefits to buy those votes once again.

After the re-election pump was primed, Congressman Ryan doused us with Washingtonian Obaminization.

We vets no longer are fighting to serve and protect our nation and its constitution we vowed to protect from enemies within and without. Washington is now determining our liberties and freedoms as they are on a shifting scale. They are no longer based on principles and standards of patriots and our fathers of faith in a trusting God, our families or our friends, but on educated, elitist leftists by unseen power players intent on destruction of our Constitution and its citizen rights.

The health bill threatens to destroy the best system in the world and make us subjects with the IRS as enforcers. The cap-and-trade energy bill destroys our sovereignty as it places us under U.N. control.

In order for people not to fear or hate what Big Government can do to them, Big Government must fear and dread the next election.

Am I alone in my concerns?

Don Rogers

Mr. Rogers, if you feel this strongly about the results of the last two elections, not to mention the threat education poses to our American way of life, perhaps you should join one of the many radical right militias.

Fake onesmallvoice at #1. A grown man, in the middle of life, still playing childish pranks. You should be ashamed of yourself.
