MANTUA -- Building a sustainable future is the intended goal of the Downtown Mantua Revitalization Committee and their vision of an improved historic downtown district.
Village officials heard an update from the committee at Tuesday's council meeting.
Committee president Edie Benner said their survey results show that 83 percent of residents would like to preserve the rural character of downtown and 93 percent said they wanted an improved riverfront and coordinating signage of the Cuyahoga River.
"This is a group effort to improve the downtown environment," she said.
Committee vice president Michelle Barnauskas said Mantua must project a strong, positive location image in order to attract investment to the community.
"To see Mantua flourish, it will take our village community working together in a uniform manner," Mayor Donna Hawkins said.
In other news, Hawkins presented her first mayoral proclamation to former clerk/treasurer Betsy Woolf.
Woolf was honored for her 10 years of service to the village by officials attending Tuesday's meeting. Many members of her family attended and congratulated Woolf on her recognition.
Woolf, a resident and business owner, also was recently recognized by the Ohio Municipal Clerks Association for her service on the OMCA Board of Directors for the past three years.
Woolf will be replaced by newly-elected clerk/treasurer Jennifer August who begins her post in April.
