John Grate, last Ohio Civil War veteran, died June 11, 1949.

Jeremy Murray, graduate of Waterloo High School, USMC, served in Iraq, killed in action, Nov. 16, 2005.

Paul Werab, U.S. Air Force, Atwater Volunteer Fire Dept., Atwater United Methodist Church, general superintendent to the Portage County Engineer, died Jan. 6, 2007.

Ebenezer Sheldon, 1754-1825. Founder of Aurora

John Ingalls Eldridge, 1896-1986. Mayor 1956-59, leadership, instrumental in City of Aurora.

Charles R. Harmon, 1811-1902. Merchant, State of Ohio Legislator.

Brimfield -- 10 a.m., May 17, Restland Cemetery, S.R. 43

John Boosinger, 1785-1875. Original 1816 settler of Brimfield Township.

Charles J. Sprague, 1915-2000. Township administrator, trustee, clerk, fireman, school board, youth coach.

Cora Lee McCormick, 1914-2007, and Edgar McCormick, 1914-2008. Co-founders and charter members of Kelso House, educators, WW II veterans.

Charlestown -- 10 a.m., May 17, Charlestown Cemetery, Newton Falls Road

Iva Austin, 1863-1939. Established the "Iva Austin Garden Club."

John Baldwin, 1770-1845. Original company pioneer of Charlestown. veteran, War of 1812, six generations of descendants on Baldwin property.

Iva May Hartman, 1890-1985. "Aunt Iva" to many, recorded Charlestown history.

Rachel Kelly Grant, grandmother of U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant.

A Native American, son of John Hendricks, born 1798, went into the spirit world 1802.

Edinburg -- 1 p.m., May 17, Edinburg Cemetery, S.R. 14 between Booth Road and I-76

Bruce Slack, major role in developing Edinburg Township Fire Department.

Eleanor C. McConnell, 1920-2006, Edinburg Township Clerk, business owner, newspaper correspondent, community volunteer.

Ben Dillon, 1985-2007, lifetime resident, worked on Edinburg Park, veteran killed in action in Iraq.

Franklin -- 1 p.m., May 17, Stow Street Pioneer Cemetery, Kent

John Haymaker, with his wife Sallie, first settlers in Franklin Township.

Eva Haymaker, came to Ohio wilderness at age 52, family matriarch, first recorded burial in Franklin Township.

Joshua Woodard, War of 1812 veteran, successful businessman.

Leman Ruggles, early stone mason and businessman, helped shap Franklin Mills and Kent.

Freedom -- 10 a.m., May 17, East and West Cemeteries, Asbury Road, Freedom

East Cemetery

Paul Larkcom, 1764-1843, Revolutionary War Veteran, cook for George Washington, arrived in Freedom in 1825, wrote "History of Freedom" in 1830.

Enoch Drake, 1773-1863, blacksmith by trade, arrived in 1830, purchased 1,000 acres of land in Drakesburg, manufactured tools, sold land and loaned money.

Orsamus L. Drake, 1806-1886 (check name spelling), arrived in 1829, built the tavern/inn, "Freedom House," colonel in the militia cavalry, justice of the peace and county commissioner.

West Cemetery

Ralph W. Shepard, 1807-1899, arrived in 1843, designed and built the Freedom Congregational Church in 1845, lifelong member of the church.

Garrettsville -- 10 a.m. May 17, Baptist Cemetery, northeast corner of S.R. 88 and Maple Street

Eleanor Garrett, 1760-1846, "mother of the settlement," business woman, first postmaster of Garrettsville.

Warren Pierce, 1842-1898, started the Garrettsville Journal.

Nelson -- 10 a.m., May 17, Tinker Cemetery, corner of Prentiss Road and S.R. 305

Asahel Mills, Delaun Mills and Isaac Mills, three brothers to survey and settle Nelson in 1800.

Palmyra -- 10 a.m., May 17, Palmyra West Cemetery, Tallmadge Road

David Daniels, first settler in Palmyra.

Harley Tuttle, 1881-1934, historian, author of "Palmyra, My Old Hometown."

Wanda G. Walter, 1917-2005, prominent civic volunteer.

Orton B. Yarian, 1879-1968, businessman, raised American flag each day at Rootstown center.

Smith W. Dunn, 1903-1992, grocery and hardware businessman, New Milford postmaster.

Magdalena Kissel, German immigrant to Portage County, first person buried in the cemetery.

Adam Lansinger, 1825-1885, Civil War veteran, survivor of Andersonville Prison, charter member of St. Peter Church.

Rev. Walter Fowler, pastor of St. Peter Church, 1933-1941.

Michael Bletzer, first blacksmith in Suffield.

Henry Laudenslager, 1837-1861, a soldier killed in the Civil War.

Col. Benjamin Higley, 1777-1867, a founding father and earnest supporter of education and church.

Huber King, 1910-2001, world renowned artist, woodcarver and community friend.
