ATWATER - The Waterloo Vikings handed the Rovers their first loss of the young season and only Rootstown's second loss in two years in a Portage Trail Conference matchup at Oak Grove Golf Course on Monday.
Led by Alex Doan and Justin Fano, both carding 3-over par 37s, the Vikings depth carried the match with the help of All-County Division Klinton McBroom's 39 and Kevin Kovacich's 41.
The Rovers' Kyle Barkhurst continued to be one of the dominant players in the conference, taking medalist honors with a 2-over par 36.
Waterloo and Rootstown will meet again today at the Rootstown Rover Invitational at Kent State University Golf Course.
East Canton forfeited their match with only one player competing for the Hornets.
The match left the Rovers and Vikings tied in the standings at 3-1 each early in the season.

Crestwood 169, Southeast 178,
Coventry 188
GARRETTSVILLE - Crestwood dominated PTC Metro Division rivals Southeast and Coventry at their home course of Sugar Bush.
Derrick Benner fired a 43 to lead the Red Devils, with some help from the backend of Crestwood's lineup as Mike Nichols added a 40 and P.J. Scarl carded a 42.
Southeast's Mike Beal earned medalist honors, finishing with a 3-over par 39 on the tough Sugar Bush fairways.
Coventry's Zach Haag was the best for his team, finishing with a 44.
Crestwood remains undefeated in the PTC Metro Division with a 4-0 record.

The host Ravens split a pair of Portage Trail Conference-Metro Division matches with the Rough Riders at Windmill Lakes on Monday.
Nordonia and LaGrange Keystone competed in a pair of non-league matches.
Kent Roosevelt won on the front nine behind a 3-over par 38 by Zach Longanecker and a 40 by Tom Connell.
Shawn Maulis was medalist on the front with a 37, while Emilee Woolf added a 45.
Ravenna came back to win the on the back nine as Maulis was again the medalist with an even-par 35. Woolf added a 42 for the Ravens.
Longanecker had a 42, while Mark Parsons and Connell each shot a 43.

GIRLS SOCCER
Crestwood 3, Akron Firestone 1
MANTUA - The Crestwood Red Devils opened their 2008 season with a 3-1 home victory over Akron Firestone on Monday.
Finding the back of the net for Crestwood was Ally Miller, who scored twice, and Sammy Zuponcic.
Miller added an assist, and Paige Nemec also delivered a scoring pass to a teammate.

GIRLS TENNIS
Warren JFK 3, Ravenna 2
The Ravenna Ravens nearly pulled a victory away from Warren JFK on Monday in Ravenna, but just fell short.
Wins by first singles standout Mariah Mostardi, along with a first doubles win by Megan Bell and Kristin Zebrowski left the Ravens one victory away from an overall team win.
Mostardi cruised in her win, posting the victory with scores of 6-0, 6-0.
In the doubles match of Bell and Zebrowski, the duo won by scores of 7-6, 3-6, 6-3.

Twinsburg 4, Kent Roosevelt 1
TWINSBURG - The Rough Riders could not muster much against a talented Twinsburg team on Monday.
The only victory by Kent Roosevelt came in a first doubles match when Kitty Kristinsdottir and Alyssa Bush posted a victory over Twinsburg.
