Even though Jim Tressel built his coaching resume on playoff games, he is vehemently against major colleges going to a playoff system.
But that doesn't mean he's not a realist. He believes, in due time, that some sort of a playoff system will replace the current, flawed Bowl Championship Series.
"There may be a day we could get to that," he said Thursday, referring to a playoff to determine the national champion. "There would have to be significant changes in the way we do things. There's been a lot of change since the beginning of time in football. I wouldn't discount the fact that in the next 10 years or so, something might get worked out and (there would be) a playoff of sorts."
He said there are "a million things" that need to be looked at before that day arrives.
"A lot of times you hear people bemoaning the NCAA rules and this and that, but I haven't seen too many NCAA rules or adjustments that they've made to our games that didn't have sound thought and didn't keep the student-athlete in mind and in the end make it better," he said. "So they'll figure it out."
Asked if he thought two unbeaten teams will meet for this year's national title, Tressel was at a loss. He said he didn't know who the remaining undefeated teams were.
