Falcons get sweep at Starkey Baseball Classic

The Field Falcons swept a pair of games in the David Starkey Memorial Classic at Kent State University on Saturday.


In the first game, Dan Demyan and Forrest Boggs combined on a one-hitter in the win over the Rockets.


Mike Ries had a double and two singles for Field, while Anthony Edwards slapped a third-inning single for the one hit for Streetsboro (3-1).


In the second game, Cory Umbright tossed a complete game while Ries ripped a home run, double, single and drove in four runs for the Falcons (6-4).

SOUTHEAST 8, STREETSBORO 5


The Pirates scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning and held on for the win at Ravenna Stadium in the David Starkey Classic.


Nathan Boston had a pair of doubles, a single and three RBI to lead the offense for the Pirates (2-5), while Tyler Ralston had a single and three RBI.


Cody Rader, Scott Ashburn and Kevin Miller each had a single for Streetsboro.

AURORA 6, GARFIELD 3


The Greenmen scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead for good on the way to defeating the G-Men at Ravenna Stadium.


Jon Hartman had three hits for Garfield (4-2).


WATERLOO 11-11, COVENTRY 10-4


ATWATER -- The host Vikings swept a non-league doubleheader against the PTC cross-division foe Comets.


In the first game, Waterloo scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to rally for the win. The Vikings had led 8-3 after five innings, only to watch Coventry score six times in the top of the sixth to take a 10-9 lead.


Waterloo's Alex Doan drove in the winning run when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and two outs.


Jon Pusateri led Waterloo with a double, two singles and two RBI; Brett Bencze added two singles and an RBI; while Klinton McBroom chipped in with two singles.


In the nightcap, the Vikings (4-4) grabbed a 10-1 lead after four inning and coasted to the win.


McBroom slammed a home run, while Dylan Wartluft added a double, single and an RBI for Waterloo.


ROOTSTOWN 10-7, MIDDLEFIELD CARDINAL 5-8


MIDDLEFIELD -- The visiting Rovers won their first game of the year in the opener, taking a 10-2 lead after six innings en route to the victory.


Ian Pfleiderer had two singles and two RBI for Rootstown, while Dillon Murray added a double, single and three RBI.


In the second contest, Cardinal (2-3) rallied from a 6-2 deficit to edge the Rovers.


Jon Park had a double, single and an RBI for the Rovers (1-7), while Pfleiderer, Eric Lewis and Greg West each had two singles.


CRESTWOOD 9, WINDHAM 8


WINDHAM -- The Red Devils rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh to down the host Bombers in a PTC cross-division game.


Derrick Benner led Crestwood (5-3) with three singles and three RBI.


For Windham (4-5), Brad Troyer had a double and single, and Jimmy Frankowiak added two singles.
