George W. Glenn of Ravenna was honored for his 80th birthday at a surprise party hosted by his children at St. Nicholas Byzantine Church Hall in Barberton, attended by more than 200 relatives and longtime friends.

George was born Feb. 22, 1929, to Sam and Anna Glenn of Cadiz, where he grew up and went to school. He has lived in Portage County more than 40 years.

He married Ruth Glenn on Sept. 2, 1947. Their children are Karen Scarlett of Ravenna; Nancy (and Tom) Bowdle of Rootstown; Susan (and Bill) Delac of Nashville, Tenn.; David (and Linda) Glenn of Green Bay, Wis.; and Daniel (and Becky) Glenn of Columbus. The Glenns have seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

George is retired from Morgan Adhesive (MacTac) in Stow. He enjoys spending time with his family, gardening, reading, and dancing with friends.

George is a member of Akron Chapter Ohio Country and Western Music Association in Barberton. It was at one of their dances that the surprise party was held. Besides his five adult children, granddaughter Alison Glenn also was in attendance at his party.

Following the dance, the family met at the home of Tom and Nancy Bowdle, where George was surprised with a dinner, catered by Tom Siciliano, and a cake. The group was joined by grandson Jeff Bowdle and guest Kristen Palcic, granddaughter Stephanie Fannin, and grandson Kevin Glenn and wife Katy Bush-Glenn. Judi Krieger, a good friend and neighbor of the Bowdles, decorated the home, served the food and joined in the festivities.

For his birthday, he received a birthday card from President and Mrs. Barack Obama.
