The Kent Lions club recently installed the officers for the 2009-10 club year. Past District Gov. Jeff Langstaff served as the installation official.
The Kent Ohio Lions Club was chartered Nov. 18, 1946. Its sight-related services and projects include annual contributions toward pilot dog scholarships with Pilot Dogs of Ohio (sponsoring 54 pilot dog scholarships to date); providing eye care and glasses for local adults and children in need ($8,000 during the past year); collecting thousands of glasses for use in Latin America and international eye-care projects; and financial support for area eye banks and for regional and national societies for the blind.
The dual mission of the Kent Lions is to provide service to the community while providing members opportunities for fellowship and camaraderie and to make the community a better place to live.
Currently there are 55 Kent Lions Club members.
Those interested in joining should stop by the Kent Lions pizza booth at the Kent Heritage Festival on Saturday and inquire about becoming a Lion.
Lions are currently selling tickets ($1 each or six for $5) for the annual raffle that will take place on Saturday.
As in past years, the grand prize is a lawn swing donated by Lion Frank Girecky.
Other prizes this year will be gift cards to local stores. For tickets contact, Jane Gwinn at 330-678-2239.
