Workers with Beaver Excavating move equipment around the construction site of the new Fairchild Avenue Bridge in Kent Wednesday. During the first phase of construction, crews have begun work on the abutments for the new bridge where the rod iron protrudes from the concrete base in the background. A temporary span has been built over the river for trucks and equipment to move back and forth. The estimated $23 million project will extend Fairchild Avenue east directly across the Cuyahoga River and includes demolition of the existing Crain Avenue Bridge, which will be replaced with a pedestrian-only span.
