The centennial year at Kent State University will bring Katharine Hepburn’s personal collection of her performance clothes to the KSU Museum for a fashion exhibit opening in September.
This year marks the museum’s 25th anniversary, and the exhibit, titled “Katharine Hepburn: Dressed for Stage and Screen,” will open Sept. 25 and run into August 2011.
Hepburn, who died in 2003 at the age of 96, asked before she died that her personal effects be put up for auction at Sotheby’s in New York. She was known for having collected a large amount of material relating to her career, including outfits worn for her on-screen and on-stage performances.
Hepburn won her first Oscar in 1933 for her performance in “Morning Glory.” Her film credits include a number of box-office hits, including the 1951 film “The African Queen,” which earned her an Academy Award nomination.
The KSU Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays; from 10 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. Thursdays; and noon to 4:45 p.m. Sundays. Parking is free to museum visitors in the lot off of Lincoln Street. General admission is $5 with a price of $4 for seniors. Admission is free on Sundays.
