This will be our last concert we go to at the Randolph Portage County Fair on thursday nights. I purchased good ticket seats to only watch additional seats added better than mine for buddies. There were many people around me that also felt the same way. People were outraged, and voiced concerns loudly to only be told these people held special tickets!!! Bull
It was all about who you knew and the rules went out the window.
The performers were great and I enjoyed that part but who ever your organization was that ran the event. Fire them, especially the ones drinking on the job. Shameful!
How was your experience at the concert?

I agree with maples I think it is shameful that people have to pay the $5.00 for a vote! the assistant secretary and the fair board president should be ashamed of themselves.

To BCGone-
I really do not think a $3,000.00 sponsorship will be hard to replace when you follow thru with your threat. ANd if you are threatning to pull away from the fair then you are NOT doing it for the right reasons anyway. see ya!

I am pretty sure by reading the comments no one said the concert was not fine. However, it is very clear the only items we are upset about are the added seats.
I wonder if the idea of adding "sponsor" seats in the middle isle was approved prior to the concert?
That is great your business sponsored the event. However, this was not YOUR show and not YOUR call to add these seats or maybe I am misunderstanding your comment. Maybe YOU didn't add the seats someone else did without approval?
Your correct. Volunteers can not be fired, these people you are referring to are not volunteers, these are voted positions. Portage County Residents that hold a membership to the agricultural society can vote. (And by the way if anyone approaches you and offers to pay the $5.00 membership fee to vote a particular way) That is not only illegal it is also morally shameful! This goes for the individuals that need to solicit votes unethically and behave as they are children by bad mouthing a number of other individuals. What a disgrace!
I think certain people are forgetting that the fair IS for the community and the 4-H kids involved.
These board members and volunteers have a responsibility to the PC Randolph Fair to present themselves to others with dignity and not forget they are a representative.
We need fair board members that CARE about the FAIR.
Thank you : Volunteers, Fair board members, 4-H leaders, Parents that do CARE and work ALL YEAR long many hours to put on a great fair and yearly events.
When I read articles in the RC during the fair and see that some of these individuals have been involved at the fair for many many years. That says something loud and clear.
There are new community members that help in different ways that learn from our senior volunteers. THAT IS WHO I TIP MY HAT TO !!
Upfront - honest " hard working people with integrity!
As a community member I thank you for your generous (no strings attached) sponsorship and am happy that you do this for the Portage County Randolph Fair.

I guess it is all about who you know and how much money you are willing to spend. I bet many individual citizens would have paid $75.00 for those seats if they would have been offered.

First of all the concert was fine. Second of all I was in one of those seats they add for sponsors. I believe the $3,000.00 that my company and other companies gave for sponsorship, so that your ticket and others would be held down to $32.00 and not $75.00 was justification for adding seats. Maybe the sponsors of the Concert should take their money and sponsor another event. Also how do you fire volunteers? Hats off to the Randolph Fair Board. Thank You!

I too enjoyed the fair very much this year, except my Thursday experience. The concert was good. I purposly purchased bleacher seats at the very top so that we would have something to lean against because it's hard for me to sit on bleachers for long periods of time without something to lean against. My boyfriend and I got to our section and went to the top row only to have people in our seats. Everyone in that section on the top row told us that there was no row 15 and that their seats were in row 14. They refused to move so we had to sit in what was actually row 14. The fair does need more people monitoring the seating and making sure people are in their correct seats.
For anyone who it interester, the Randolph Fair does have a survey you can do on their website:

Does anyone know why Stark County kids are in the Portage County 4-H program? Stark county has a fair right?
Does this stop any Portage County children from bringing a project to the PC fair due to allowable room?

I would just like to say that I am a little partial because I do know a couple people that are very involved at the fair.
And to respond to the below you always have a few bad seeds but I do absolutely agree these issues need to be resolved in a fair way.
The people I know care so much about the fair and care how successful the fair is every year. Please do not let personal feelings outweigh what is important and discourage your attendance at upcoming events.
It is the fairs success and what I mean about the fair success is not only how much money they earn for one week out of a year. Success is also the 4-H kids involved in every aspect of the fair. These kids work hard all year to put on a great show for everyone as well as the board members / volunteers. The community needs people who are voted in that care about the fair, not the as the comments say "good old boy" that shows up the week of the fair or the volunteers that you only see one week. The success of this fair takes a WHOLE year to make it a great success.
I am involved in many other groups as a seat holder and volunteer, all groups have problems but it is the groups that change / fix the problems I have the utmost respect for. These types of individuals know who they are and if the can not see what is important and have enough integrity then shame on them.
If these fair comments are from people who also insist change for the better than make a phone call, write a letter or get on the fair website. Sometimes you need to speak loudly to be heard!
I am going to praise them one more time- To the Volunteers / Jr. Fair Board / Senior Fair Board / 4-H kids / 4-H Parents and Families who helped make this year the best 150th celebration. THANK YOU ! I enjoyed the fair so much more this year because of all the hard work to insure these special 150th events were great like the opening ceremony, time capsule and the 150th birthday party.
Congratulations!
You all should be proud to be involved and a part of the 150th Celebration of the Randolph Fair!

Why is it that volunteers take it upon themselves to run a department as they want. I thought you are suppose to volunteer to help the communitity or cause. Buddy Favors, side $ etc.
Volunteers should be treated as if this was a full time paid job. You screw up you are FIRED!
