Homicide has not been ruled out in the “suspicious” death of a 33-year-old Palmyra woman, whose body was discovered in her home Wednesday.

Samantha Anielski was found at her residence, 3462 Alliance Road, by deputies from the Portage County Sheriff’s Office just after 3 a.m. Wednesday.

Portage County Sheriff Dave Doak described Anielski’s death as “suspicious” and said investigators are looking into the possibility of it being a homicide, but would not release any further details.

Doak did disclose that a caller reported the death but would not say who made the call — or where it was made.

“We’re not going to get into any details at the moment,” he said.

Wednesday afternoon, the lights were on inside the home as investigators from the sheriff’s office probed the scene.

Police tape surrounded the single-story home, but Wednesday’s heavy winds brought much of the tape to the ground.

Anielski, a Streetsboro High School, graduate was married in 2004 to Richard L. Soika. The pair divorced in May 2006, according to court records. They had no children. Soika is a member of the Kent Police Department.

Doak said Anielski was in a relationship with someone other than her ex-husband.

Palmyra is about eight miles southeast of Ravenna on Portage County’s eastern border. Alliance Road divides Palmyra and Edinburg.

I am a lifetime friend of Samanthas and she was a sweet girl that always put everyone else first. Her smile lit up a room. He is guilty, no one reacts like he did when you find the woman you love in the condition she was in. I know she is beautiful again in heaven and will be waiting for us when it is our time. Justice will be served whether here on earth or when he meets the same fate for eternity.

First of all thoughts go out to Samantha's family. To all that thinks Mark was a great guy...your wrong, obviously. I have seen this kid destroy his life for years. If it wasn't getting in alcohol related accidents it was punching his close friends in the face. I have always known him to be a bad drunk who goes to mom to save him time after time. I would bet there is alcohol related to this as well. This is a horrable tragedy that has happened. I hope justice will be served in our twisted county.
If i ever need the cops for some reason i will make sure i just drive down to the station myself! Come on...!

So very sad, my daughter and Samantha went to school together and she would come to our home often. Such a nice young woman. Hope justice is served swiftly.

Arrest made in connection with Palmyra murder

Authorities have arrested Mark A. Mann, 29, of Palmyra and charged him with murder in connection with the death of 33-year-old Samantha R. Anielski.

Portage County Sheriff Dave Doak said Thursday morning his deputies took Mann into custody Wednesday afternoon, but investigators did not formally file the murder charge " an unclassified felony " against Mann until late Wednesday evening.

Doak said Mann and Anielski were living together at 3462 Alliance Road in Palmyra, where deputies discovered Anielski's body early Wednesday morning.

"They were in a relationship," Doak said. "I'm not sure if they were formally engaged."

Doak would not comment on Anielski's cause of death, but there was some delay in between the discovery of the body shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday and confirmation Anielski was the deceased.

Doak also would not comment on what lead investigators to charge Mann in the case, and the sheriff declined to release further details Thursday.

According to court records, Mann has a history of criminal charges, including a felonious assault charge filed in 2002 in which Mann was accused of assaulting a Portage County Sheriff's Office deputy.
