I just wanted to say I attended some of the events for last weekend's "Grate Day in Atwater". What a nice event!! From the pancake breakfast at the firehouse to the parade, dedication of monument, and horse demonstration, it was a very nice event. Looking forward to it next year. To whomever put this together, great job! One small suggestion. . .advertise this better! Had I not attended the pancake breakfast and saw your flyer, I wouldn't have known everything that was being offered that day!

Yes, the event was "Grate". I enjoyed all of the events that were planned that day. I agree that more advertising could have been done to draw more attendance (some of the vendors agreed with me also). I expected to see more local citizens, but was disappointed. The pancake breakfast was one of the best. Too bad Portage County officials charged the volunteer fire department a vendor's fee to put on the breakfast.

It was a celebration recognizing Mr. Grate - the last civil war vet from Portage County - he was 103 when he died. So yes, the spelling Grate was correct.

I also attended this event. Very nice. I agree it should become an annual event. Good job! I was surprised at the turnout.
