Inmate Marriage Granted

I surely do not understand the judicial system in Portage County. On August 5th of this year, Bradley Wagner was driving a car that wreck killing one person and severely injuring the other. Brad fled the scene of the wreck and hid from the police to avoid arrest. On September 30th Judge John Enlow granted permission for Brad Wagner who is still and inmate at the Portage County Jail to be married.

Bradley's fiance Cortrina Russell is the same person who on August 21st was indicted for obstructing justice with purpose to hinder the discovery, apprehension, prosecution, conviction or punishment of Brad Wagner.

In my opinion this just makes no since what so ever. I strongly disagree with Judge Enlow's decision to allow these two to be married at this time. He should have more respect for the families of Shannon Allen and Shane Leech.

There is no criminal background check required for a marriage license. Although if my fiance killed someone while driving drunk, I think I'd reconsider the engagement!

I am probably one person that anyone would want on a jury. I understand the legal system, have a conservative mindset about crime and punishment and generally believe that far too often, criminals get off too easy.

Innocent until proven guilty is the basis of our legal system. In today's world of plea agreements, far too many prosecutors take the easy plea with a lighter sentence because it is quicker and cheaper.

I also believe that marriage should be the basis of all families. Take a look around, see how many people just set up house, live as a family and instead of working through lifes little problems, they can pick up and leave the other party holding the bag for everything they worked for together.

No, I am not an officer in any police department. Just opinionated with a bit of knowledge.

You know, if he's innocent, and depending on the circumstances, I MIGHT! I'm sure you've bever considered the fact since you can't distance yourself from it. None of which has anything whatsoever to do with the fact of his getting married. Other than you alredy convicting him in your mind, and wanting to punish him in every way possible.
CmdrKJon, are you a cop in Streetsboro, perchance?

I am related to one of the parties involved. I hope none of you get seated on the jury. From what you have indicated in your postings you would all probably give Brad a kiss on the forehead a pat on the back and let him go.

The state code would only apply if someone is convicted of a crime. As hiltonhead stated, he is not a prisoner of the state until convicted.

I think CmdrKJon put it best. And we don't care WHAT you "tend" to disagree with. Since they are in the county, not state system. And what you "tend" to quote from is a STATE publication. You are out of order. And out of common "since", and need to mind your business. How doe's any of this affect you, directly? I can only say that, for myself, I'm glad you are "busybodying" this issue. And not more important things. Should leave that to adults who have real sense.

Must be a slow news day in Ravenna.

I tend to disagree with that statement. Perhaps a review of The State of Ohio, Department of Rehabilitation policy section five would be in order.

The answer is quite easy. Per American Juris Prudence, a person is innocent until proven guilty. Until such time as Mr. Wagner is found guilty of a crime, it would be improper for a judge to deny his request to be married.

That's all you care about is my misuse of one word? How shallow you are. Since you believe that I am so befuddled by the judicial system here in Portage County, perhaps you would care to elaborate on why you think that these two upstanding citizens should be allowed to marry at this time? Further explain to me what Judge Enlow's reasoning was behind his decision?
