Finally, something we can all agree about...

H.R.6209 - Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation Act
To require the Federal Communications Commission to prescribe a standard to preclude commercials from being broadcast at louder volumes than the program material they accompany.
Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation Act - Directs the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to prescribe a regulation prohibiting advertisements accompanying video programming from:
(1) being excessively noisy or strident;
(2) having modulation levels substantially higher than the accompanying program; and
(3) having an average maximum loudness substantially higher than that of the accompanying program.

This bill is sponsored by a Democrat and it's moving to the full house for a vote this week. Will the Republic Party vote against it because it's a move towards the Obama Communist control over big business?

"People who watch only Fox News will deem this legislation unnecessary, because there isn't a commercial made that's as loud and annoying as FOX."

Best laugh I've had today! Thank You!!

Could say when the Tube gets quite it's Marhoffer screaming at us to buy a car. LOL!

Anyhow, I believe the practice of 'turning up the volume and reducing the spikes' is called 'Clipping" and I thought Legislation for this was passes years ago as I don't remember hearing these 'loud commercials' for quite a while.

But now their back and I feel like punching out car dealers and such.

I bought a good stereo decades ago and it didn't make it this far by being abused.

And there have been a couple nights I've been on the Idiot Box with the TV playing in the background, one of these idiot commercials come on and not only am I irritated but the Wife is yelling at me to turn the damned TV down. So I either listen to the dinky speakers in the Tube or get some decent sound and take my chances on several fronts.

I for one am glad this is going to get pushed through.

If this can be a starting point to get the extremist factions in our congress to work together, perhaps they can actually work together to reconstruct the economy.

There is a cure for the economy, but it will be slow. Quick fixes never last and usually cost more in the long run.

First, let NAFTA expire already. Second, revoke China's MFN status. Third, enact tariff's on imported goods to bring their costs in line with American made goods. In our enlightened age, we do not have slave labor, we have a minimum wage and government enforced safety rules.

In China, Hong Kong, Korea, India, Mexico and other countries they do not have these built in expenses. Work them until they drop and bring in another. Pay them pennies a day to make products they will never be able to afford, then ship them to America. On costs, we will not be able to compete unless the playing field is levelled.

If Americans are then still willing to pay the same price for a foreign made good as they would for American made, then at least we would be able to support those who cannot find work. Come to think of it, It may be able to fund healthcare and lower income taxes as well.

Gee, while I am dreaming, I would like a pony too.

I don't watch MSNBC, but I'll take your word for it. Happy Holidays!

It's ironic Kent Sheetz, that whenever I attempt to watch MSNBC to hear the Oberman or Maddow, at commercial time, my gets louder. That alone, not even considering the extreme far right agenda, is enough to make me go back to FNC.

I am surprised thought that we didn't get see government in action as Obama has promised on healthcare. He told us we'd watch it on CSpan and true to his word, I see Congress and House debating healthcare daily. NOT!

Harry Reid and that great scholar Al Franken are wonderful examples of government for all people.

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukah everyone and let's hope year 2 of Obama is a much, much better one. It could not get worse. Notice I didn't say Happy Holiday!

People who watch only Fox News will deem this legislation unnecessary, because there isn't a commercial made that's as loud and annoying as FOX.

I think this legislation is of the utmost importance also, screw double digit unemployment, controling the federal deficit, health care. The congress needs to spend some time on real issues like this. Only problem with this legislation is that at the rate things are going the people it may impact are limited because they don't have jobs to pay for electric, (prerequisite to the luxury of cable or satellite tv), or they may have incurred some out of pocket medical expenses that sunk the monthly budget allotment for the cable bill. When they get done with this all so important legislation perhaps it will be time to address the issue of enforcing a playoff system to determine the national collegiate football champion. Now that's a priority.
