Mmmmm those delicious Girl Scout Cookies. Most of us are tempted by them. Whether you prefer chewy, caramel-covered Samoas drizzled with chocolate, sophisticated Thin Mints, or the simple, light shortbread Trefoils, one cannot resist the delightful treats that are only available once a year.

Right now, thousands of Girl Scouts, ages five to 17, are taking orders. Girl Scouts of North East Ohio (GSNEO) is offering eight varieties of America's favorite cookies made by Little Brownie Bakers. New this year is the Thank U Berry Munch, a shortbread cookie filled with tart cranberries, sweetened with creamy, white fudge.

The cookie sale is a hands-on leadership and entrepreneurial program that allows girls to gain important financial literacy skills. Real girls learn real leadership, such as money management and teamwork skills by participating in the program.

New this year, GSNEO is launching a new program, the "Girl Scout Cookie Club," which is an online tool that allows girls to send online requests to friends and family asking for cookie "promises." The girls will still deliver cookies and accept payment in person.

Consumers interested in purchasing cookies can be connected to a troop in their area by contacting Girl Scouts of North East Ohio, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. at 1-888-9-THIN MINT (1-888-984-4664)
