The senior and junior dance teams at the Aurora Conservatory of Dance were invited to perform at Disney World in Orlando Florida on January 9th . The day of the performance, the wind chill was a near record breaking 20 degrees. The dance teams included 20 people ranging from 6 years to 20 years old, 3 of them boys. They performed a 25 minute show on the Waterside stage at Downtown Disney. To uphold the high standards of Disney's performers, the dance team wore their planned costumes that were chosen for the typical 70 degree weather. A smile was also worn by all who performed despite the uncomfortably cold conditions they performed in. "No one complained one time" reports Krystal Dennison, emcee for the dance team, "despite the slippery stage, it was one of their best performances". The show consisted of 8 dances of several genres of hip hop, jazz, ballet, lyrical, and acrobatics. The performers were graciously thanked by Disney's staff with backpacks and t-shirts with specialized Disney Magic Music Days logo. The Aurora Conservatory of Dance was awarded with a Mickey Mouse trophy for their outstanding magical performance. The dance team participated in a dance workshop, learning 2 retired dances that were performed by the cast of Disney in previous running shows throughout the park. One senior dance team member reports "Goofy dancing with us at our workshop with the best part of my trip", stated Emily Hawkins. The dance team will be performing these two dances at their non-profit "Return to the Past" Gala put on by the owner of the Aurora Conservatory of Dance. The Gala will take place at Shallersville Town Hall on April 17th from 6-8pm. Contact the Aurora Conservatory of Dance at (330) 562-1436 for more information on attending the Gala.
