Today as a I was taking my husband to work I noticed a young person walking in the road. They looked like they were on there way to school. I did not however notice them till I was right up by them due to there dark clothing.

I understand that with all the snow the kids have know way of getting to school without walking in the steet due to citizens and businesses not clearing the sidewalks.

To many people have died recently due to walking. I would like to ask those of you who do walk PLEASE WEAR BRIGHTER CLOTHES. I do not drive fast nor do I use a phone when I drive. I would also like to ask drivers to be considerate of those who have to walk , please give them some room.

Thank you.

Could this be another task that people serving time could perform and help the community they have fouled? Of course the inmates would have to be those who are guilty of minor infractions and somewhat trustworthy in other words candidates for rehabilitation. Their work could count as double or triple toward the time they are to serve. The community should get something for their (granted minimal) provisions.

Dear High Holy Grand Poo-Bah:

The picture is of my father in law Bob O'Neill and his grandson.

My son use to walk a lot on Newton Falls Rd to go into Ravenna. Or when he wanted to walk to the park on top of the hill. This became dangerous because of the drivers and I had to stop him from walking Newton Falls Rd.

The reason I wrote this blog was to bring it to people's attention. I believe we all could do more to help.

Stay warm, have a safe and warm winter.

Ps. Thank you to all of those who go far and beyond to help others and keeping us safe this winter.

Senior citizens and others who are physically unable to shovel their sidewalks should contact their local churches to see if a Boy Scout troop is affiliated with the church. These boys are always looking for service hour projects. The local High Schools may also have club members who are willing to help.

i go down south prospect st in ravenna and i see a guy from a local company plowing the sidewalk from van buren to the street before the bridge. now why is it that that person can clear the sidewalks for people but the city cannot... and im sure other people have seen him from the city. and im sure they dont pay him for gas and or repairs

To clear things up with the seniors..... My mother is one of those seniors. She has lived in Streetsboro over 50 years, raised my sister and I. Did many things for us, other folk here AND the schools.... She is on a fixed income now,and cannot pay anymore taxes if she wants to live in what has been her home for over 50 years.I know many who have lost their jobs and are struggling to keep their homes in that city . So wise up before you judge folks whom you know nothing about. Not being able to afford to pay anymore taxes has nothing to do with caring about anyone. That senior is 75 and goes out to shovel her drive and help others who has a hard time with theirs. To bad there arnt more like her out there! Love ya mom!!!!

I agree that the high school kids in Streetsboro aren't too likely to be falling over themselves to shovel the sidewalks of the seniors that vote down the levies and don't care about their education.

I live on Main Street in Ravenna and the sidewalks used to get plowed by the city. I remember laying in bed and hearing the little tractor out all hours of the night getting the walks ready for the kids to get to school the next morning.

Now their safety is at risk. Why is it not a priority to keep them safe? On several occasions, I have had to watch out for them because they were walking in the streets.

We try to keep our walks cleared but what about everyone else? We have a lot of elderly people in our neighborhood and it's all they can do to get their driveways cleared, let alone their sidewalks.

We got nailed with heavy snow last Friday night and the city had ALL WEEKEND to get the walks cleared. On Monday morning, nothing had been done. I did notice on my way home from work on Monday afternoon, the little tractor was at work. Too little, too late.

Since Ravenna schools NEVER close and the kids are out walking in the streets, it is just a matter of time before one of them gets seriously hurt or even killed. Is that what it's going to take?

Exactly High Holy, respect brings respect. Who cares if they are senior citizens or not. This amount of snow is too much for a lot of people.
On my street the only walk not shoveled was the house with two highschool students in the family. It's still not open and the little ones walk right down the middle of the street!
Parents better walk to school with the kids until this melts.
Also the people plowing driveways should shovel out the sidewalk area so it isn't blocked.
