Junior high students at St. Joseph School in Randolph battled it out for the title of "St. Joseph Spelling Bee Champion 2010". Participants spelled their way to the top of their individual classes and then moved on to battle it out for top school honors. This year's top speller was Malinda Baer, Grade 8. Malinda and 2009 Spelling Bee champion Steven Pavliga went 17 rounds before Steven gave up his crown and claimed the alternate second place position.

Malinda placed 2nd out of 35 at the Regional Spelling Bee held at the Maplewood Career Center in Ravenna on Feb 16. Her round ended on the word juxtaposition. She advances with the top five competitors to compete in the District Spelling Bee on March 13 at the Akron Public Library. The top speller there moves on to the National Bee in Washington, DC in May.

Congratulations goes out to Malinda and the entire junior high students at St. Joseph School for their hard work and dedication to the contest. Malinda's classmates and entire school plan to cheer her on as she advances to the regional competition.
