A new residential program has opened in Ravenna Township for women ages 18 to 24 called Portage Horizon.

The program will provide permanent housing for six women who are homeless or in danger of homelessness in a facility on Washington Street owned by the Portage Metropolitan Housing Authority.

The program is a partnership between PMHA and the Ohio Multi-County Development Corp.

“PMHA is very happy to be in partnership with is project,” said Romaine Chritton of PMHA.

Ted Ziegler, CEO of the Ohio Multi-County Development Corp., said Portage Horizon is a simple concept.

“If young adults are given a safe and secure place to live, they are able to truly focus on building a strong foundation for their future,” he said.

The program is similar to four other homes OMCDC operates in Summit County.

Portage Horizon’s facility has six bedrooms, three bathrooms, a large kitchen, a large living area, a study room and more.

Residents will have a live-in advisor and access to counseling in person and through a video conferencing program.

Referrals for the home are expected to come through PMHA, the Portage Housing Council and social service agencies in the county.

Joe Scalise of the OMCDC said the goal is to provide a supportive environment for young women.

DoWhatsRight,
Sometimes you post ignorant comments. This is one of those times.

This may be well and good, but what are the requirements to be entered into this program? How much is this going to cost the taxpayer? There are those that go from program to program so as to avoid having to get a job and take care of themselves

Looks like a great program. Get them started off right and negate the potential for a lifetime of dependence. Great idea! Beautiful facility.
