Field clinches share of Metro volleyball title, Crestwood stays alive in race with win

BRIMFIELD -- The host Field Falcons clinched at least a share of the Portage Trail Conference Metro Division title on Tuesday with a three-game sweep of the Coventry Comets, 25-10, 25-14, 27-25.

Field, 12-1 in the division (19-1 overall), holds a one-match lead over Crestwood with one match left to play in the regular season. A home win over Kent Roosevelt on Thursday will give the Falcons the outright Metro Division championship.

Arielle Kenyon led the Falcons' victory over the Comets with 10 points, four aces, 21 digs and a save. Tabitha Murray followed with 10 points, one ace, six kills and 13 digs; while Lauren Feciuch chipped in with eight points, 22 assists and five digs.

Also aiding the cause for the the Falcons were Rachel Backer with six points, one ace, 14 kills and 12 digs; and Jessica Landis with five points, 18 assists and one dig.

Crestwood over Southeast,
18-25, 25-22, 25-15, 25-22
PALMYRA " The visiting Red Devils rallied from a first-game defeat to eliminate the Pirates from the Portage Trail Conference Metro Division title race.
Crestwood (11-2 Metro Division) remains one game behind division-leading Field. A loss by the Falcons on Thursday and a win by the Red Devils at Coventry would give Crestwood a share of the title.
Courtney Zigman paced the Red Devils with 16 points, two aces, 16 assists, 11 kills and 11 digs. Alyssa Kralik added 11 points, three assists, four kills and 27 digs, while Elaine Bowen had seven points, 17 assists, 11 kills, five blocks, and 14 digs.
Brittany Woodard led Southeast (16-5, 10-3) with 11 points, four aces and 15 assists. Kelsey Tuttle had eight kills and three blocks, and Emily Gahagan chipped in with 11 kills and nine digs.

Streetsboro over Rootstown,
25-20, 25-12, 25-21
ROOTSTOWN " The visiting Rockets cleared the deck for their showdown with Waterloo on Thursday at Streetsboro for the PTC County Division title.
The Rockets (16-5, 12-1) were led by Karlye Gary with 12 points and 10 digs. Jaclynn Hess and Jordan Genovese had eight points and eight digs each.
Kat Finch had 10 points and three kills, Lauren Hughes added six points, three kills and three blocks, while Melissa Reynolds had three points, five kills and four digs for Rootstown (12-9, 7-6).

Waterloo over Woodridge,
25-20, 25-11, 25-15
ATWATER " The Vikings swept the visiting Bulldogs to set up Thursday's showdown for the PTC County Division title in Streetsboro.
Sarah Wojciechowski led Waterloo with 19 points, six kills, 11 assists and 14 digs. Sara Shields piled up 12 digs, seven points and three kills, Krissy Mettle had eight points and seven assists, Jesse Bolanz finished with eight kills and four blocks, and Leah Efferson added 11 blocks.
Jessica Reiter and Claire Kasper scored eight points each for Woodridge (2-17, 0-13).
The Vikings (17-4 overall) and Rockets both enter Thursday's pivotal contest with 12-1 County Division records.

29-27, 22-25, 20-25,
25-19, 15-8
The host Rough Riders rallied from a 2-1 deficit to win a fifth-game tiebreaker and down the Panthers in a PTC Metro Division match.
Hailey Dukes had 14 points, four aces, 21 kills and nine digs to lead Roosevelt (9-9, 7-6).
Also for the Rough Riders, Morgan Shriver added 25 kills and 13 digs, and Kayse Schmucker had 15 points, three aces, eight kills, and six assists.

Windham over Garfield,
17-25, 25-21, 25-23,
14-25, 16-14
WINDHAM " The host Bombers outlasted the G-Men in a fifth-game tiebreaker to capture a PTC County Division contest.
Cassie Hickman had 14 points with nine aces, Alex Roubic added 10 points and 20 assists, and Laura Cline had 15 kills to pace Windham (8-5 County Division).
Kelly Russomanno led Garfield (6-15, 4-9) with 18 points, five aces, and seven assists. Megan Brosius had 16 points, three aces, and eight digs, and Katie Opfer added 14 kills and four blocks for the G-Men.

Mogadore over
East Canton,
25-15, 25-19, 27-25
MOGADORE " The host Wildcats downed the Wizards in three games in a PTC County Division match.
Meredith Holl had 11 points and 12 kills, Tara Bole had 11 points and 24 assists, and Lauren Hunt added five kills and 16 digs for Mogadore (13-7, 8-5).
