Crestwood running game lifts team over Pirates

MANTUA - The host Red Devils finished the season strong, winning three of their final four games as a big second quarter propelled them past the Pirates, 41-22, in a PTC Metro Division contest on Friday night.
Talon Stephens got things started for Crestwood (3-7, 3-4) with a 9-yard run, but Southeast (3-7, 3-4) responded with a 65-yard scoring run by Gary Allen to tie the score at 7-7 after one quarter.
But in the second period, Eric Head scored on a 7-yard run, Stephens found the end zone from 14 yards out and Dakota Long picked up a fumble and returned it 35 yards to paydirt to open a 28-7 lead for the Red Devils.
Southeast got on the scoreboard again before halftime on a 14-yard pass from Anthony Pennington to Sean Stone to cut the margin to 28-14.
David Czerny scored on an 18-yard run and Head added an 8-yard TD run to finish off the scoring for Crestwood.
Southeast added its final tally on a 10-yard scamper by Allen and added a 2-point conversion on a pass from Pennington to Taylor Simyak.
The Red Devils rolled up 382 yards on the ground, led by Czerny with 112 yards in 11 carries and Head, with 101 yards in 17 tries.
Stephens chipped in with 84 yards in 15 carries and Long had 10 carries for 82 yards.
Allen paced the Pirates ground attack with 154 yards in 16 carries.
