Staff report

The list of accolades continue to pile up next to the name of Streetsboro senior standout Robert Wilson.

Wilson, the Rockets’ 6-foot-4 forward, has already been named the Northeast Inland District Division II Player of the Year and the Portage Trail Conference County Division Player of the Year.

Now, add First Team All-Ohio to Wilson’s list of achievements for the 2008-09 season — a year that he averaged 23.2 points per game for a Rockets team that ended the year with a district championship and also were co-champions of the PTC County Division.

In his four years with the Rockets, Wilson scored 1,694 total points and pulled down 965 rebounds. Both marks are new school records at Streetsboro and Wilson also catapulted the program into new territory by playing the lead role on a district champion team.

No Streetsboro team in history had ever reached the regional tournament, and this year’s edition of the Rockets have now placed that under their belts as well.

Joining Wilson on the list in Division II was his fellow senior teammate Carrington Hanna, who was named to the Honorable Mention list.

Hanna was another key component for the Rockets this season, and similar to Wilson, was a multi-talented player that could do many things while on the hardcourt.

Rounding out the Division II list was Ravenna Ravens senior guard Jordan Jones. Jones was also named to the Honorable Mention list in Division II.

Jones led the Ravens to a second-place finish in the PTC Metro Division and was the team’s leading scorer. Jones was a three-year letterman for Ravenna and helped sustain the program within the division.

In Kent, another standout was recognized on Monday, with senior Andre Paulk being named to the Division I Special Mention All-Ohio list.

Paulk was the top contributor on the Rough Riders’ team that won the PTC Metro Division crown this year to collect back-to-back titles for the program. Kent Roosevelt also advanced to the district final before losing by just one point to Barberton.

Paulk, who transferrerd to Roosevelt last season from Cleveland John Adams High, quickly became known throughout the PTC for his game-breaking style of play and highlight reel dunks.

However, Paulk was also well-known for his all-around play, as he led the Riders in many statistical categories, including points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals.

Editor’s Note: The Division III and Division IV All-Ohio lists will be released on Tuesday. Check the Wednesday edition of the Record-Courier for the complete list and story.

I was wondering, is it the fault of the school's athletic department or the Record Courier for not listing the fact that Jordan Jones was named Portage Trail Conference Metro Division Player of the Year in the paper yesterday? the fact that Robert Wilson was named Portage Trail Conference County Division Player of the Year for Division II. I personally think that this Jones has gotten overlooked. Everyone wanted to talk about Wilson and Paulk and truth be told, Jordan Jones can play with either one of those guys. Following the Ravens from Jones's freshman year until now, one would have to see that in these last two years especially Jones has had to play against his opposing team as well as some of his teammates. Most of these players (like Wilson and Paulk) had a supporting cast to help them achieve their goals or wins, where as most of the time Jordan was a one man band. Jordan will also be playing in 2 all star games in the next week or so and I hope that someone has or will see him for the true talent that he is on the court and in the classroom.
