Special to the Record-Courier NORMAN, Okla. — In just two years Kent State sophomore John Hahn has become one of the most decorated golfers in a program steeped in tradition. This week he picked up yet another award as he was named to the PING Honorable Mention All-American team by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Hahn, who was also selected to the Midwest All-Region squad, along with teammate Brett Cairns, becomes the 14th different individual and the 21st All-American for the Golden Flashes, which claimed their 17th Mid-American Conference title this season. “What a great honor for John, I am extremely pound and happy for him,” said KSU head coach Herb Page, who has coached 19 All-Americans in his 31 years at the helm. “He is an exceptional talent with unlimited potential. The sky really is the limit for him as continues to work and develop his game.” One of just five golfers named to the MAC All-Academic team, Hahn was voted as MAC Golfer of the Year for a second consecutive season in 2009. This season he averaged 72.1 strokes per round and won two tournaments, including the MAC Championship at Brickyard Crossing. After tying for third at the NCAA Northeast Regional, he ended the season with six top 10 finishes. Hahn, who was rated 39th in the final Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index and 40th by Golfstat.com, is just the second KSU sophomore to receive All-American recognition and the first since current PGA professional Ben Curtis did so in 1998. A First Team All-MAC selection, the sophomore Cairns averaged 73.4 strokes per round, including 72.9 in the eight spring events. The runner-up at the MAC Championship, he is the only KSU golfer to play in all 79 rounds over the past two seasons. “I am thrilled for Brett, who has worked hard and performed well all season,” said Page, who was named the 2009 MAC Coach of the Year. “This award recognizes him as one of the best players in the region and will help give the national acknowledgment he deserves.” ••• Kent State All-Americans • John Hahn - 2009 Honorable Mention • David Markle - 2008 Honorable Mention • Jon Mills - 2001 First Team, 2000 Third Team • Ben Curtis - 2000 Second Team, 1999 Second Team, 1998 Honorable Mention • Donnie Darr - 1995 Third Team • Bryan DeCorso - 1995 Honorable Mention • Kevin Kraft - 1994 Honorable Mention • Eric Frishette - 1994 Second Team, 1993 Honorable Mention, 1992 Honorable Mention • Brian Bridges - 1991 Third Team, 1990 Honorable Mention • Dave Morland - 1991 Honorable Mention, 1990 Honorable Mention • Karl Zoller - 1985 Honorable Mention • Tom Jereb - 1984 Honorable Mention • Ned Weaver - 1977 Honorable Mention • Mike Morrow - 1973 Honorable Mention
