Staff report The Cleveland Plain Dealer was the first to report late Wednesday night that the Cleveland Cavaliers were very close to working out a deal to sign free-agent guard/forward Anthony Parker. Now the deal has become official according to league sources, with the Cavs landing the long-armed wing player. The team made it clear from the opening of free agency that they had their sights set on a multi-talented perimeter player. The deal is reportedly to be announced within the next few days, with terms of the deal not official, but likely to be a two-year deal for close to $6 million. After emerging in European leagues, Parker, 34, has played the last three years with the Raptors and has averaged 11.9 points per game during those three years. Last season Parker also averaged 4.0 rebounds and 3.4 assistst per game, while shooting 43 percent from the floor and 39 percent from 3-point range in 33 minutes per game. Parker is also an 83.4 percent free-throw shooter. Parker is 6-foot-6 and can play both guard positions and even small forward. He is an above average defender, a good ball-handler, good shooter and a smart overall player with a high basketball IQ. It is likely that Parker will come off the bench in support of Delonte West, Mo Williams and LeBron James. In doing so, Parker gives the Cavs immediate depth with a player that was a consistent starter for the Raptors in his three years. Comments
