The Geno Ford World Tour is back on the road with a four-day stop this week in Las Vegas.

“Today I’m going to watch Joe Abunassar work out some NBA players at his facility,” the Kent State men’s basketball coach said Monday morning.

Abunassar of Impact Workouts is regarded as the “trainer for the pros,” for his work with NBA stars like Kevin Garnett, Chauncey Billups, Dwight Howard, Paul Pierce and Chris Bosh. His list of alumni from his workout program reads like a who’s who of NBA All-Stars.

“(KSU assistant coach) Rob Senderoff was out here last week and thought we could learn some really good stuff from (Abunassar),” said Ford. “So, I’m here to watch and get some ideas to take back to Kent.”

The rest of Ford’s week will be spent watching high-school prospects at three different AAU tournaments.

Cincinnati area high school star Kenny Knight, who has verbally committed to Kent State and plays AAU ball for the Queen City Prophets, will be playing in one of the events.

“This is the biggest spot of the summer,” said Ford, who is prohibited from commenting on Knight or any other AAU player by NCAA rules. “Nike, adidas and Reebok all have tournaments, so there will be 1,400 AAU teams in Vegas this week.”

Ford’s summer recruiting tour opened with two days in Cincinnati, one day in Akron, one day in Chicago, two days in Tulsa, one day in Lancaster, Tex., and two days in Morgantown, W.V.

The second period will see him go from Las Vegas to Dallas and Orlando. After two days in Orlando, he flies home to play in a golf outing at Kent State, then goes right back to Orlando for the final two days of the recruiting period. The last day coaches can watch games before the start of the new high-school season is July 31.

“And then we start practicing for our trip to Italy on Aug. 10, so the summer is pretty much a rumor for me at this point,” said Ford.

Kent State will play Italian professional teams during a 10-day tour of Italy at the end August.
