CLEVELAND — Jake Delhomme has a new NFL home, and the Cleveland Browns have another new quarterback.

Delhomme, released last week by the Carolina Panthers, has agreed to terms on a two-year deal with the Browns, whose quarterback position has been nothing short of a merry-go-round of players since the club returned as an expansion team 11 years ago.

Delhomme’s agent, Rick Smith, said the 35-year-old QB would sign his contract before the club’s off-season conditioning program begins. Smith refused to comment beyond saying Delhomme would be resuming his career in Cleveland.

A team spokesman said the Browns have no announcements planned.

Cleveland has been busy trying to resolve a troublesome position. Earlier this week, the Browns acquired backup Seneca Wallace and released Derek Anderson, a one-time Pro Bowl selection who has struggled in the past two seasons.

Delhomme is expected to compete for Cleveland’s starting job with Brady Quinn, who has yet to receive any endorsement from the club’s new front office.

Delhomme visited the Browns on Thursday but left without a deal. He had scheduled a meeting with the New Orleans Saints, his hometown team, but canceled that trip after working out the principles of a deal with the Browns.

Since 1999, the Browns have had eight different opening-week quarterbacks.

Delhomme is coming off his worst season as a pro. He threw 18 interceptions and the Panthers decided to cut him despite still owing him more than $12 million. Delhomme went 58-40 as a starter with Carolina, leading the franchise to its lone Super Bowl appearance to end the 2003 season.

Here are other signings that happened around the league on Saturday:

Washington: Running back Larry Johnson has signed a three-year deal with the Washington Redskins. The contract’s base value is $3.5 million, but Johnson could make as much as $12 million if he meets certain incentives. Johnson is a two-time Pro Bowl pick who has run for 6,219 yards and 55 touchdowns in eight NFL seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals.

Also, offensive lineman Will Montgomery has re-signed with the Redskins. Montgomery, a restricted free agent, started three games at right guard last season as the Redskins frequently shuffled their lineup due to injuries.

Seattle: The Seahawks have finally stepped into the free agent marketplace, agreeing to terms with tight end Chris Baker. A team spokesman confirmed a deal had been agreed to on Saturday, although the team did not release terms of the contract.

New York Jets: LaDainian Tomlinson is heading home to San Diego to consider his options after spending a day with the New York Jets and leaving without a deal. The free-agent running back was on a flight Saturday morning after his visit. He had dinner in New Jersey on Friday night with coach Rex Ryan, general manager Mike Tannenbaum and other team officials.

Tomlinson, who has rushed for 12,490 career yards, will turn 31 in June and was released by the Chargers last month after his least productive season. He ran for 730 yards on 223 carries for an average of 3.3 yards per carry, all career lows. Tomlinson scored 12 touchdowns, but his role was reduced in an offense now geared toward Philip Rivers and the passing game.

San Diego: The Chargers have agreed to terms on a two-year contract with free agent cornerback Donald Strickland. Strickland started two of the 11 games in which he played for the New York Jets last season.

Green Bay: The Packers have signed safety Nick Collins and nose tackle Ryan Pickett to long-term contract extensions, securing the services of two cornerstones in their much-improved defense.

Cincinnati: Antonio Bryant is the latest complementary receiver to Chad Ochocinco in Cincinnati. Bryant signed a four-year deal with the Bengals on Friday. He ostensibly replaced Laveranues Coles, who spent the 2009 season with the team, but then was released.

Kansas City: Veteran center Casey Wiegmann is returning to Kansas City. The Chiefs announced Friday they signed Wiegmann, who was a free agent after two seasons with Denver. Terms were not released.

Arizona: Free agent offensive lineman Rex Hadnot has agreed to a three-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals, who also have re-signed center Ben Claxton to a one-year contract. Hadnot played the last two years with the Cleveland Browns after spending his first four NFL seasons with the Miami Dolphins. He has started at both guard and center.
