Record-Courier staff report Westminster College scored 23 unanswered points to spoil Hiram College’s early hopes for its season and home opener on Saturday at Charles A. Henry Field. Hiram jumped ahead early on a pair of field goals by Luke Russo, but watched that lead slide away in a 23-6 loss. Russo split the uprights from 30 yards to put the Terriers ahead 3-0 with 1:34 to play in the first quarter, then added a 38-yarder wtih 11:14 to play in the second. All of the scoring in the last 41 minutes belonged to Westminster. The Titans took the lead at 10-6 when Shawn Lehocky rolled into the end zone on a 2-yard run just before the half. They would extend the lead in the third quarter on a 7-yard touchdown run by John Proano and a 33-yard interception return by Kyle Allen. The pick and run-back by Allen spoiled the otherwise impressive afternoon of Hiram quarterback Brendan Rehor, who completed 31-for-46 passes for 300 yards. His top target, Glenn Campbell, caught eight passes for 130 yards. The Rehor-Campbell duo helped Hiram out-gain Westminster 355-274. The Titans (1-0) did most of their damage on the ground with Proano totalled 123 yards on 23 carries. Quarterback Shawn Lehocky added another 64 yards on 14 attempts. Hiram travels to Gambier next week for a matchup with Kenyon College in the first North Coast Athletic Conference game of the new season. Comments
