Born March 15, 1909 in Braceville, he was the son of John H. and Ella B. (Pleuss) Smallsreed. He was a seven-year resident of Ravenna.
Mr. Smallsreed was a self-employed farmer.
He was a member of Braceville United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Braceville Lions Club, a charter member of the Braceville Fire Department. He was also a member of Unity Masonic Lodge No. 12 and Ravenna Eastern Star Chapter No. 46. He served on the Braceville School Board. He was a life member of the Farm Bureau Federation.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret E. (Hunzinger) of Ravenna, whom he married April 7, 1979; son, Arthur C. of Braceville; stepson, Alan C. Minich of Aurora, Colo.; daughter, Mrs. Michael (Wilma) Radik of Columbia, Mass.; sisters, Mrs. Hazel Taft of Windham and Mrs. Joseph (Mary) Fester of Sebring; 17 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. His first wife, Dorothy V. Crecelius, died in 1979. A daughter, Miriam Ratte, and a grandson, Jeffrey Radik, also died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the James Funeral Home, 8 E. Broad St., Newton Falls, with Masonic services at 6:45 p.m. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Braceville Methodist Church. Burial will be in Braceville Cemetery.
