Born Dec. 1, 1912, she was the daughter of Carl and Ellen (Keller) Straight. She earned her bachelor of science degree in Education at Kent State University.
Mrs. Cowan taught in the Atwater and Aurora school districts, and later taught English and music in the Streetsboro schools. After her retirement, she continued as a substitute teacher with the Streetsboro schools.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Streetsboro and Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority.
Survivors include her husband, Glenn, whom she married Aug. 8, 1936; son, Robert C. (Britta) of Munroe Falls; daughter, Mrs. John (Anne Elizabeth) Arbuckle of Spartanburg, S.C.; two grandchildren; brother, Edward Straight of Florida; and sister, Lois Dene Ward of Florida.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church of Streetsboro, with the Rev. James Cox officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Streetsboro.
